Diabetes

Diabetes is a chronic disease that affect how your body turns food into energy.occurs either when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin or when the body cannot effectively use the insulin it produces.Diabetes also known as diabetes mellitus, is a group of metabolic disorders characterized by a high blood sugar level (hyperglycemia)  over a prolonged period of time. The following are the signs and symptoms of diabetes:Increased thirst and urination,Fatigue,Blurred vision,Unexpected weight loss,Increased hunger,Slow-healing sores and frequent infections,Red, swollen gums,Tingling or numbness in your hands or feet.

Sugar and diabetes.

The exact causes of most types of diabetes is unknown,But in all cases, sugar builds up in the bloodstream. This is because the pancrease doesn't produce enough Sugar ,sugar does not directly cause type 2 diabetes, but eating too much sugar can contribute to risk factors for type 2 diabetes.People with diabetes have high blood sugar, but does that mean eating too much sugar can cause diabetes.Excessive intake of sugar leads to increased fat storage in the body. This increased fat storage, especially inside the liver and around internal organs ,lead to the body resisting insulin action. The pancrease then needs to produce more insulin to maintain the blood glucose levels  in a nomal range.that is the cause of diabetes if pancrease run in a abnormal.

Health impact

Over time, diabetes can damage the heart, blood vessels, eyes, kidneys, and nerves.Diabetes is the major common causes of blindness, kidney failure, heart attacks, stroke and lower limb amputation.

Adults with diabetes have a two- to three-fold increased risk of heart attacks and strokes.

Combined with reduced blood flow, neuropathy (nerve damage) in the feet increases the chance of foot ulcers, infection and eventual need for limb amputation.

Diabetic retinopathy is an important cause of blindness and occurs as a result of long-term accumulated damage to the small blood vessels in the retina.

People with diabetes are more likely to have poor outcomes for several infectious diseases.

The most Common types of diabetes are:

  • Type I diabetes
  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Gestational diabetes

Type I diabetes

In type I diabetes your pancreas does not make any insulin.Type 1 diabetes (previously known as insulin-dependent, juvenile or childhood-onset) is characterized by deficient insulin production and requires daily administration of insulin.

Type 2 diabetes

In type 2 diabetes your pancrease does not make enough insulin and the insulin it is making does not always work as it should.

More than 95% of people with diabetes have type 2 diabetes. This type of diabetes is largely the result of excess body weight and physical inactivity.Until recently, this type of diabetes was seen only in adults but it is now also occurring increasingly frequently in children.

Gestational diabetes

Is a type of diabetes that can develope during pregnancy in women who don't already have diabetes.Gestational diabetes is hyperglycaemia with blood glucose values above normal but below those diagnostic of diabetes.Women with gestational diabetes are at an increased risk of complications during pregnancy and at delivery. These women and possibly their children are also at increased risk of type 2 diabetes in the future.

Prevention

Diabetes can be prevented by change life styles,we have already discuss that excessive intake of sugar lead to diabetes type 2,so we have to avoid some fast food like bites, cakes, cheese, biskuits and others foods which have high compositions of sugar.

Lifestyle measures have been shown to be effective in preventing or delaying the onset of type 2 diabetes. To help prevent type 2 diabetes and its complications, people should:

  • achieve and maintain a healthy body weight
  • be physically active – doing at least 30 minutes of regular, moderate-intensity activity on most days. More activity is required for weight control.
  • eat a healthy diet, avoiding sugar and saturated fats.
  • avoid tobacco use – smoking increases the risk of diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Avoid kind of  high sugar food.
